We all know Sustainability is an important topic but not enough of us truly understand the importance? To cut a long story short, it is about living a life where your needs are met without having a negative impact on the needs of the future generations. It requires making the environmentally-conscious choices in your daily life and while running a business. You may not live a 100% sustainable life but there are some basic things that you can change to make a world a better place already today.
Day 1 - Use the self-powered transport
If you commute everyday to work by car try to bike there, or walk. It’s great for your health and body. About 10,000 steps is the equivalent of exercising strenuously for 30 minutes, or walking five miles per day. By following this routine, you'll expend an additional 2,000 to 3,500 calories per week.
Day 2 - Shop locally
We are sure there are some great local markets in your neighborhood. Not only does shopping or buying locally from the farmers’ market or other local market reduce waste from packaging, but it also reduces the use of fossil fuels. Food miles not only consume energy, but they contribute to poor air quality. It also may be cheaper if you compare with supermarket prices or conventional grocery stores. The the most sustainable part of buying locally is the fact that you are putting money on the rural communities from your region reducing poverty and improving life quality.
Day 3 - Donate, don't throw
Do you have clothes that you haven’t been wearing for ages? Most of us do. It’s not really helping you or anyone else if your wardrobe is full of unnecessary jeans, T-Shirts or old college hoodies. Instead, you may explore some places where you can donate them for people in need. You kill two birds with one stone: people who don’t afford to buy a new clothes can get yours for free and also you don’t let your stuff to end up in a landfill, where it will still emit dangerous gases.
Keep in mind the clothes need to be on good conditions, with no holes or stains.
