6 things every person who is living or traveling to QLD should experience in 2019, whether you're a local or an international student. Excited? Let’s go!

### **1. Dive the Great Barrier Reef**

Of course you have heard of the world’s largest living organism, this is an ultimate Australian experience. You would need 2 to 3 full days to do the basics and could comfortably spend 5 to 7 days. Please keep in mind The Great Barrier Reef is a living structure under pressure, threatened by climate change, pollution and land run off, and other factors. Be careful while traveling there, stay conscious and protect our nature. 

**How to get there?**

The journey starts usually at Cairns airport. This is home to general, domestic and international aviation terminals and is serviced by all major carriers state-wide, nationally and internationally. As the gateway to North Queensland, International visitors can fly direct to Australia via Cairns Airport. Domestic visitors can travel via Qantas, Virgin Australia and local and regional charters regularly from most major cities and towns.

### 2. Help study manta rays on Lady Elliot Island

The island is a hotspot for reef manta rays. Take an underwater camera with you to the island. When you spot the manta, make sure to take a photo of its ventral surface (belly), which has unique markings. This photo will help University of Queensland’s Project Manta team’s research. Email your photos to project.manta@uq.edu.au, including the date and location of the sighting. If the manta you photographed is new to Project Manta’s database, you get to name it!

### 3.Hug a koala at Lone Pine 

Only 12km from Brisbane City, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary with 130 koalas.

### 4. Take a video of tiny turtles running from their eggs and joining their family in ocean at Mon Repos.

Located 15 kilometres north of Bundaberg, Mon Repos Regional Park is the largest and most accessible turtle rookery on the Australian mainland. Offering the only guided turtle tour on the east coast of Australia.

### **5. Watch the humpback whales in Hervey Bay**

Many humpback whales arrive in Hervey Bay from late July and remain until November when they begin their return to the southern ocean.

### 6. Pay a visit to famous Bundaberg

Home to Australia’s now world famous rum. Come and discover firsthand why we’re the most awarded rum distillery in the country. They will  give you a hint it’s a combination of hard work, and loads of experience, which started way back in 1888.
